Spring Cleaning With Essential Oils

It’s time to put the green in your clean! Common household cleaners contain toxic chemicals that can be harmful to your health. You can create safe, eco-friendly cleaning products using essential oils and other natural and inexpensive ingredients you can find at any natural grocery store.

Learn how to get your natural clean on!

Learn how essential oils and other natural ingredients can do most of the work for you! Learn some super easy DIY recipes that make cleaning very easy! They’re made from things you probably already have in your kitchen.

Are you looking to deep clean your house, but the thought of using conventional cleaners with sketchy ingredients makes you less than thrilled? You may be interested to learn that many essential oils offer you the same caliber of clean, with nothing gross left behind.  Gone are the days where you have to worry about donning a mask and rubber gloves to clean your countertops. Chemical residue is an afterthought with these quick and easy DIY cleaning recipes! Let’s start learning about the power of cleaning with essential oils!

You probably have most (if not all) of this already in your kitchen:

Baking Soda - Instead of your typical cleaning spray, use baking soda. This is a well-known deodorizer, but it will also whiten surfaces and cut grease.

Unscented Liquid Castile Soap - Combine with baking soda for an amazing tub scrub or add a few tablespoons to your mop water with a citrus essential oil. You can find this in your local health-food store and online. Unscented is usually best for most purposes.

White Vinegar - Vinegar also cuts grease, deodorizes, and dissolves mineral deposits. To cut the smell, add in a few drops of Lemon essential oil.

Borax - Gives more cleansing power. Borax disinfects, whitens, cuts grease, and deodorizes. **Although it is natural, borax is toxic when ingested, and can cause skin irritation. Keep away from children, pets, and food preparation areas.

Wood Furniture Polish
Is your wood furniture or flooring starting to look dull and lifeless?

Wood furniture is an investment and it is important to take care of it. Although polishing wood furniture should only be done every couple months, it is important to continually keep it clean by dusting it or wiping it with a damp wet microfiber cloth.

Commercial wood polishes may look great 1-2 days after polishing, but initial impressive results can quickly fade and ultimately damage the wood. Not only are they harsh on wood furniture, they also contain chemicals and artificial fragrances that can cause irritation, or worse, health problems when proper safety precautions are not taken while using them.

Bring back the shine to your favorite tables, counter tops, floors, and more with this simple recipe for homemade wood polish with essential oils.

What You Need:
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup vinegar
10 drops essential oils (try Wild Orange or Lemon)
8 ounce glass spray bottle (you can purchase one here)
Directions:
1. Add 10 drops of essential oil into the glass spray bottle.
2. Add olive oil and vinegar.
3. Shake well before each use. Apply to a microfiber cloth and wipe wood surfaces clean. Repeat every 2-3 months or as often as needed.

Or Try This:
Add ¼ cup white vinegar, ¼ cup olive oil, and 10 drops lemon essential oil to a glass spray bottle. Shake to combine, apply to a microfiber cloth, and wipe wood surface clean. Repeat every 2-3 months or as often as needed.

Take the risk out of household cleansers by making your own cleaners at home. They are affordable, easy, eco-friendly, and just as effective (if not more) than store bought cleaners.

1/2 cup distilled water
8 drops of any citrus oil of your choice (could use Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit, Wild Orange, or a combination)

  1. I only use eco-friendly cleaners in my home, but I am still learning the ropes of using essential oils. I definitely use baking soda and vinegar when cleaning different areas of my home. I want to try the eucalyptus, peppermint, orange or lemon oils with my natural cleaning products. I do want to thank you for the tips because I am going to try the daily shower spray with the lemon and melaleuca oils.
